Whirling Star

Published Categorized as Quilting

So here it is, my very first foundation paper pieced quilt block. It was much easier than I thought it was going to be and I did it with a regular ruler not an “add a quarter” ruler like most of the blogs recommend. I definitely see more paper piecing in my future so I’ll definitely invest in the add a quarter ruler though. The only thing that didn’t line up perfectly was when I sewed all 4 of the foundation parts together but I also foolishly took the paper off before getting to that step, a lesson I’ve learned now!

Meant to take more photos but got too excited and forgot! Haha! I’m so pleased with how my choice of colors came together, I wasn’t sure inverting the blues on two points would look right but it came out splendidly.

One thing I learned about foundation piecing:

I used regular printer paper for one pattern and fancy paper piecing paper for the other parts. I’m so glad I got the fancy paper, I don’t think I would have the patience for foundation piecing if I had to use tiny little stitches and fight with the regular printer paper.

You can find the tutorial for the whirling star block here.
